We know how frustrating it feels...

You put so much love into your plants, yet they still struggle. You're not alone.

🥀

Your plant wilts or yellows even when you water carefully

No matter how little or how much you water, the leaves still turn yellow and droop.

💧

Water sits on top or drains too slowly

The soil stays soggy for days, and you're always worried about overwatering.

🌱

Roots rot and plants keep dying

You pull out a plant only to find brown, mushy roots. It happens again and again.

🏠

Hard to keep plants alive during long Canadian winters

Low light and dry indoor air make everything worse. Your plants struggle to survive.

⚖️

Heavy, messy soil that's difficult to work with

Moving pots around your apartment feels like a workout, and the soil compacts quickly.

😞

You love plants but feel frustrated and defeated

You want a beautiful green home, but keep losing plants and don't know what you're doing wrong.

It’s not your fault.

The real reason your houseplants keep struggling is simpler than you think.

1

Most potting soil holds too much water

Regular soil is dense and compacts over time. When you water, oxygen gets pushed out and roots literally drown.

2

Roots need air as much as they need water

Healthy roots require oxygen to breathe and absorb nutrients. Without enough air pockets, roots become weak and prone to rot.

3

Canadian indoor conditions make it worse

Low light, cooler temperatures, and drier winter air slow down evaporation, so soil stays wet much longer.

In short: Your plants aren’t dying because you’re a bad plant parent.
They’re struggling because the growing medium doesn’t let their roots breathe properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before getting started with Perlite

Is Perlite a fertilizer? Will it feed my plants?
No, Perlite is not a fertilizer. It is a 100% inorganic growing medium made from volcanic glass. It improves aeration and drainage so your plant’s roots can better absorb the nutrients from your actual fertilizer or soil.
How much Perlite should I mix with my soil?
For most houseplants: 20–30% Perlite is ideal.
For plants that hate wet feet (like succulents, snake plants, monstera): 40–50%.
For propagation or hydroponics: You can use 100% Perlite.
We include a detailed mixing guide with your order.
Will Perlite help prevent root rot?
Yes — this is one of the biggest benefits. Perlite creates air pockets and allows excess water to drain quickly, which greatly reduces the chance of root rot, especially during long Canadian winters when soil dries slowly.
Is this Perlite safe for edible plants and herbs?
Absolutely. Our Perlite is naturally sterile, has a neutral pH (around 7.0), and contains no chemicals. It’s completely safe for vegetables, herbs, and any plants you plan to eat.
How long does one 2L bag last?
The 2L bag is perfect for home gardeners. You can typically amend 6–10 medium-sized pots (depending on mix ratio). Because Perlite doesn’t break down, you can rinse and reuse it for many seasons.
Is Perlite dusty? How do I use it without making a mess?
Perlite can be a bit dusty when dry. The best way is to slightly dampen it with a spray bottle before mixing with soil. This reduces dust significantly and makes it much easier to work with.
